My inks have arrived!!!!

I just ordered my first set of tattooing inks. I'm excited to start trying them out. At $6 an ounce they better be marvelous. Honestly I'm eager to start seeing the far reaching limitations of this media. Yeeeeeee I'm absolutely giddy, like when I bought my first set of Windsor newton watercolors. True I was very poor for a while after buying 24 colors, but I was sooooo happy to have them. Listen to me I sound like such a dork. Oh well I love color, there is no denying it.

I found an "old" (2 months ago old) practice portrait while I was cleaning out the studio. I was just doing the under painting for it just to get a grasp on acrylics before I took another series on. I realised towards the end of the under painting that this format size (10x14) was much too small for what I am used to working. Which would be about twice that. I guess you can say this was the starting point as to whether or not I could paint portraits. I think it fairs a close resemblance; being that I paint my jaw too fat, and my hair looks like I threw on a wig on. If I had just started it on a larger canvas I could have saved it. Oh well, we make no progress by leaving the fat on.

Rocky II

Rocky attempt number II, or as I like to call it, "random-Hispanic-looking-chick that fairs-no-resemblance-to-Rocky and looks kinda evil too." I will take comments on what ever it is that I am missing and is keeping this from looking like the intended subject. God how I wish that I had live models on hand.

Working on Rocky

Towards the end of this week, I put down the "Connor" piece and started working on the under painting for "Rocky". The difficulty of her piece is that all the photos that I have of her she has the biggest smile on her face. Which is not at all how I wanted to display her as, at all. Now that I see her in the white shirt instead of the darker one, I'm wondering if the current color is poor choice. And that right side of her shirt, Damnit! Ok there will be an updated of this piece before too long. Curses and hell!

WTF?! Who stole this?

I was alerted today that my work has managed to appear on somebody's Myspace Page as a profile pic--without my permission! As far as I know I'm not getting monetarily ripped off, so I don't care. But the eye-opening fact is that this is how the Orphan's act could have affected me. I haven't decided what action I am going to take aginst this person. For now the leery tiger watches.

25x 25x 25

I plan to be starting a new series over the next year. 25 portraits, that are all 25" squared. Realistically I think that I will have to paint closer to 40 Portraits to get 25 that will be viewable in a gallery, but for advertising purposes want to call the show "25 x 25 x 25" The theme will be portraits of people that I know. The problem is due to my gypsy lifestyle, I only have a few photos of some of these folks, so sitting sessions will be limited if at all.

Currently I'm working on "connor". I think that I have the under painting where I want it. I still feel as though it doesn't look quite accurate. But I move on to the next one for now.
