Still Lifes: round one

Last week I came upon a recollection as I was at the beginning stages of my next big series: I can't paint. Which makes it rather difficult to be working on three simultaneous series when they are all acrylic works. Therefore, the series(plural) will just have to take a back seat as I paint a bunch of simple still lifes to get back into the swing of manipulating the paint.

Since coffee makes up 93% of my blood, why not have my still lifes feature my favorite vice? If I was a crackhead I'd probably paint the syringes. In any case this is what I got accomplished this week trying to recall how the paint works.

8x10" Acrylic

8x10" Acrylic *that sand is from Oahu, HI*

8x10" Acrylic *I made that cup out of gas-fired stoneware, so its break proof.*
One thing I learn this week was how to make a pallet full of acrylic paints last two days in open air. The trick? Acrylic retardant + glazing medium +light misting of water = oil grade blendable paint, that can be washed off with water.

New Room Photos

As of July I moved to Cape Cod, MA. With in that move came a more spartan lifestyle. It also meant that in every way possible I was forced into going green. And not just in color scheme too. Here it is, the new room in all its messiness:

The room is approximately 7'x8' so there really isn't alot of room for a mess. Luckily, all the porn fits well under that bed.

So much sketching you too would eat your own eyes.

I'm really liking how this piece is going to turn out, even in this very toned down and rushed pencil study.

Moo!

More Sketches

Its 3am. Do you know where your child is?
Well s/he better be asleep of doing homework!

These are three larger thumbnails. Still playing with content, but the subject matter is fairly under control. I think I might title the finished piece "Innocence: Lost". So that this picture will match up with the suggested series of: Birth, innocence, maturity, death, rebirth.

I have an idea jotted down for "death" somewhere. My version of "death" will also be not so A-typical.

New Painting: thumbnails

Looking for some new inspiration so that I could get back into the grove of things; I need a new series for a distraction so that I can go back and finish working on the other old ones.

After being ever so mildly inspired by my friend Tran (http://pockypuu.blogspot.com/) and her most recent body of work, I too felt the need to explore my own inner dreams and poetic thoughts, and work on a canvas that I stole from my housemate. The ultimate size will be 24"x 48". In acrylic of course.

These are 21 thumbnails of the different directions I'm thinking about going before I start making bigger drawings and eventually work on the painting its self.

Let me know what you think.

Alex MacCorvis

Deranged and high one day, I had a dream about a bunch of were-people from all over and turned into various animals.

My main character, Alex MacCorvis, is a guy that can much to his unfortunate can turn into a six foot tall crow.

I think I was really just eager to get back to drawing and working on some portraits. Granted they are not the best faces, but its been about four months since I last drew a face. And them bitches is tricky.

I wanted him to have wispy ratty hair. "Head hair" as it is termed on the street. But meh, there will be more and much better examples.

Bored with Tattoo Flash

Just trying to stay busy, I felt like drawing a snake with a monitor face for someone's tat. I couldn't decide on what kind of pattern to put on the snake's body, so I left it open and blank for changes later.

New Studio Space

Who said that you couldn't feed two people on $20 a week, and plan a trip to Europe? Unwillingly you can.

"Got stopped at the mall the other day
Heard a call from the other way that I just came from
Some nigga was sayin somethintalkin bout
"Hey man, you remember me from school? Smoke some?"
Naw not really but he kept smilin like a clown
Facial expression lookin silly
And he kept askin me, what kind of car you drive, I know you paid
I know y'all got buku of hoes from all them songs that y'all done made
And I replied that I had been goin through tha same thing that he had
True I got more fans than the average man
But not enough loot to last me to the end of the week
I live by the beat like you live check to check
If you don't move yo' foot then I don't eat
So we like neck to neck" -Andre (Elevators)
So after a very long and unmotivated hiatus, I got the motivation I needed to start producing art again. It only took a few months.
The Andre quote above is from this sort of epiphany that I had. The epiphany happened while I had no direct income and my stomach was rumbling. I came upon great divine knowledge: "I don't draw, we don't eat."

Now its not as if I have been sitting idle waiting for miraculous checks to come rolling in. As some of you know I've been painting and cleaning.

(*each one of thoes buckets is a different colour* This was only enough paint for 5/8 of all the rooms. We still got A garage and cellar to finish. But that's not till the spring)

But at some point an income needed to be made. So this is my Coming Out of Hiatus Declaration, "I don't draw, we don't eat."

*half that crap is sell-ables and eBay items, so by winter most of the mess you see should be gone*
