She-sassin Munny: finished

Me neither. It was a crazy summer here. Hence my She-sassin (aka female assassin) got put on a back burner till I had time to redo the parts of her that were falling off. In any case she is complete. A tad more African American than I initially intended making. But look at that face! love is colorblind! She's gorgeous and you know it too!

And as always process photos:

Initially this is a glow-in-the-dark Munny by KidRobot. I washed, spray primed and used cheap black paint and pink Krylon plastic paint

I started out the designs like this. I used vine charcoal on the pink area and white colored pencil on the dark areas.

Now this munny I tried to see if I could complete with no pre-sketches and just a bunch of reference sitting around. Yeah it did not work do well.

And this (above) is where the munny stopped for about three months and sat on a shelf as I reluctantly called the project a failure. Due inpart to the poor choice in spray paint. When spray painting, always spray with "Sandable" primber. If you can't sand it, then its going to sluff off. Also when choosing a brand, look for paint cans with enamel or plastic for the base color. They will not rub off so easily, but be warned they act as a skin. So they can peel off if you are too rough with them.

Then rather recently I sucked in my gut, acetone-ed the entire money and pulled all the paint off, since it was falling off anyways I was not at an inconvience to do so.

I then re-spray painted the Munny using better spray paint and a better technique and re-carved all my previous designs out, and left some of my less bright ideas stay hidden in the layers of spray paint.

Here you can see where some of the carve lines overlapped

Obviouly my re-painting worked. but there were a few spots where I became a litte too carve happy and I needed to fix it. And learning from my previous mistakes, I re painted the spots I messed up on, again.

Masking off the safe areas.

and ta-dah!

Owl-Cat: Custom Mini Trikky Munny

Behold, Owl-Cat (not to be confused with Cat-Owl)

Owl-Cat is a cat cross dressing owl. From a young age, Owl always felt more like a cat than an Owl. Unfortunately at night, his true nature still shines through.

I fell pretty keen on this piece since the goal was to turn this character over from start to finish in less than 3 days. Minus some Photoshopping, of photos and a fun poster, I achieved my goal. I've tackled each of these vinyl characters in a different medium or technique to achieve the best, and ultimately most efficient system of making awesomeness.

And as a lucky treat for those of you who dare to care; I found the missing camera, so I was able to take a few process photos:

The key to Owl-Cat's fast turnover was to utilize spray paint and add small subtle details to fill in the missing deliciousness.

For about a day Cat-Owl sat around like this till I could figure out something to do to his skin to make is less "static" aka boring.

It actually took a several coats of spray paint till I got the best face possible, and even still I had to touch up with color pencil, and glazes

Towards the end I added a zipper sculpted from 'Magic-Sculpt' (http://www.magicsculp.com/faq's.htm) and spraypainted and attached it to the maint torso. Unfortunatly I attached it crookedly, so I had to use LOTS of cover-up and rouge to hide my opps.

MANY TOUCH UPS!

Finally the photo-sexy-take-off-your-clothes and look pretty time.

Closing thoughts: I have to buy my housemate more Magic-Sculpt. For me Magic-Sculpt works better than Sculpty, since you DO NOT HAVE TO BAKE IT. It air dries, almost overnight. Ergo, new LOVE

Loss of Innocence: revisited

I started the sketches for this painting a little over a year ago, and from the time since those original sketches I've worked on other projects and paints, all in attempt to build my skills up to the point where I thought I could handle a paint of this complexity and of this size too.

I'm not done with the picture yet, but this is what I thought you folk out there might enjoy seeing

Mini-Mini Munny: Foo Dog-Dark version

I finally got some spare time to take photos of this lil guy. And here he is, "Foo Dog - dark version". Unfortunatly the bright version is still under mental construction, so for now enjoy the allure that is before you.

He's a combination of a new technique on vinyl that I'm trying. It utalizes my love of carving in combination with spray paint, acrylic glazes, color pencil and lots of ozone destroying aerosol: spray matte coat. The smells take me back--to about last week; which is about as far as I can remember.

By why tell you when I can show you?

PROCESS PHOTOS!

These last two photos make use of rubber cement as a masking fluid. Unfortunately the effect did not achieve the results I had wanted. I re-sprayed, however I was having "missing camera" issues. But I plan to re-attempt this final effect that was utilized on Foo Dog -Dark. Until that post, stay tuned for pretty thing to come.
